[RC] New Years E-Card Warning OT - Chastain, Shannon L.

Title: New Years E-Card Warning OT

This was generated where I work:
BEWARE of New Year’s E-Card greetings!
A frenzy of malicious holiday spam is attempting to lure people to click on a New Year’s e-greeting link. Once clicked, PCs are at risk of becoming a remotely controlled botnet zombie.

Botnets can perform any number of malicious actions such as sending out spam and launching cyber attacks. The Storm Botnet first emerged as a serious concern in 2007 and its size has grown to anywhere from 1 million to 50 million PCs.

NPPD’s MailWise service is actively blocking these emails. At one point yesterday, MailWise reported that their service was blocking approximately 500 of these malicious greetings every second for their customers.

As a reminder, ITT security encourages you to STOP THINK CLICK whether you are at home or work. It is also important to keep your PC protection current with the latest software security updates and antivirus protection.
