Re: [RC] [RC] agressive horse...defensive kicker? - Janice Taylor

This was the biggest difference I noticed when I came back to riding in LD/Endurance from NATRC. Boy, those NATRC judges would be have everyone's sheets marked black! And not just on the horsemanship card either. There would be some DQs before the ride even started. Safety is one of the major issues in NATRC, 'this is a good thing'.

One should always be aware of their own horse and those around them. I've seen some near misses that would have been an awful accident if it had connected. Ouch...

Janice ` looking forward to a wonderful, HAPPY NEW YEAR, with many miles, and wish you all the same!!!

I agree with that, you should assume any horse could kick at any time. One thing that has bothered me (with my limited experience at the rides) is riders not paying adequate attention when they're in line for the vet check -- crowding, lack of attention, horses pinning their ears and threatening to kick out (sometimes actually kicking), and their handlers not even aware of it... heads up everyone. Any horse can kick in the "right situation."
