I have a wide-backed Arab that has low, wide withers.  A treeless saddle was recommended to me, too, but after using it a year, I did a 25 mile LD ride and he finished with a sore side at girth level and a sore back on the opposite side.  The saddle consistently shifts to one side or the other and cannot be righted.  It "wallows" on the horse.  It's a royal pain....

Some people feel that the wide backed horses do well in treeless saddles.
