[RC] question for Auburn riders/re: trail - Kathie Ford

Hi all, sorry to bother you again but I have a question for any and everyone riding the Auburn trails from the Overlook and/or Maidu.

Specifically the Cardiac by-pass and the Overlook.

Anyone know specifically if bikes are allowed on the Cardiac by-pass and/or Overlook trails?

There is so much single track with dropoffs in there I was a little concerned.

A week ago I rode with my daughter up the switchback and saw bike tracks towards the top section. What concerned me deeply is that they were on the very very narrow portions of the switchbacks where there is no room at all for a startled horse to go if bikes are on their way down. I have nothing against sharing trails at all and my horse is very comfortable with bikes, however, I've never seen tracks their before. It would be extremely dangerous to a horse/rider coming up that switchback with a bike or two coming down fast. There is no where to go to escape or pull over.

Also, I wanted to take my husband to the Overlook to ride. His gelding is experienced in there but I do worry about running into a bike on the first mile or so section going out from the Overlook as well. We are used to hikers/runners/dogs, even kids with green flags...but not sure about the bike part. I know there are wider trails we share and that works. But the above I'm concerned about. Especially when I'm by myself or with my husband. I'm just starting to take him out more little by little and need to know what to expect.

Anybody know for sure? I'm most concerned about the switchback...

kathie
