[RC] 25/30 vs 50 - sherman

It depends on the horse's previous use also. A horse that was already
fit and used in some athletic venue could be ready for a slow 50 after 6
mos. of conditioning...according to Nancy Loving, DVM, in her book, Go
the Distance. I did a slow 50 on my 8 yr old, after 6 mos. under saddle,
because I knew he'd spent 8 years running around with a small herd on
10-20 acre pastures.

Kathy

Donna asked:

But I think it?will take more work/ more horse/ more rider to peak and
top
ten at the 50s. [...] My question is, when is it the appropriate time to
move a horse up to a slow 50?
