Boy I for one am glad that more people have a generous and agreeable spirit in this and realize a few things.
First, LD rides DO INDEED pay for the events in many cases, and so a big thank you to RMs who realize that we support each other.

Secondly, Ld's are the equivalent in some way of novice, maiden, baby green level competions in other disciplines and have notable value, and man people DO use them early in the season as a tune up for their proven 50 mile horses.

Thirdly, LDs have demonstrated their value and ultimately have earned a place in the scheme of things, and in addition, comparably speaking (from 40 years of experience in other disciplines), there are no peers as to the competence required of the horse to even the LD rides - try it on yourself - go ask your local TOP NOTCH cutting or hunter or dressage rider about trotting most of 25 miles....just try it on before you sneer at those who "only" ride LD for whatever reason. Might want to steer clear of wheelchair marathoners though - my experience is that, it may not lOOK teh same but you wont want to piss them off:) lol!

Finally, as someone said earlier, I am glad such arrogant, selfish people are not making teh decisions for the HUGE rank and file who feel and rightly so that LD has earned its place in the program, and that LD riders should not be shot in sight as marauders....sigh but wow, I am glad to see that the selfish few is a dwindling bunch!

As a personal aside, you know, there are some people who actually HAVE lives of different priorities ( read, home schooling kids, supporting a traveling spouse, etc) who would LOVE to be able to fit up a horse for 50s or multi-days or Tevis - and to take on a snotty, arrogant attitude says more about the poster with the tude than anyone else. It does not engender a desire to pass out teh Amabassador Award to the poster. It does, however, point out that we do have more work to do if we want to extend the hand of inclusion to the future riders who will support our sport with their time and $$ in the future whenALL OF US will be on limited incomes, limited age related abilities - and many will no longer be able to take snotty tudes about who should and should not ride. Sumemd up, some people actually HAVE LIVES - that include family, work, faith and so forth, that come first out of necessity. Must be nice for those who either do not have those pressing issues or frankly have no one or nothing in their lives that they care enough about to sacrifice a bt of personal and otu of line pride.

No, riding when not prepared is a no no - andin my mind, so is being a complete and utter SNOT to someone and publicly is also. Why dont't you - WE - try encouraging people in ways to accomplish what they woudl like to do? Lord knows this group si FILLEd with experienced riders who HAVE come this route of hard work, busy schedules while STILL maintaining their lives - and integrity. Jamie, you just keep askin questions and keep working at it - and dont let anyone make you feel like you shouldn't bother trying!

Then don't do the rides.

Or, get someone else, as in the case of the famed Remington Steele... to share
the conditioning regimen.

How difficult is that to figure out?

If your horse isn't prepared, and you aren't prepared, why would you even think
of getting out there?
