[RC] legs - what do you do, multi days - Tx Trigger

Original message: >>>What do you do to protect your horse's legs, especially
if doing multi-day rides? I'm not talking leg protection while riding, but
treating and wrapping back in camp, after riding. In camp I've seen people
icing legs, wrapping, poulticing, etc. What's the best thing to do,
especially if riding 3 to 5 days in a row?<<<

It depended on the horse, but most we left them bare legged, and did not do
anything. Some, we would wrap with quilts and cotton wraps, and a few we
would wrap as above, with that blue ice gel stuff. Usually the people
variety, as we could find it in most drug stores. Also, it had depended on
what kind of day the trail had been. Muddy and slick? Extra hard packed?
If you walk around camp at the 5 day rides, you will see a bit of
everything.

If you do not know how to do a correct wrap, or don't have the right stuff
to do them, I usually say "don't". I have been taught that for standing
wraps, use the quilts or cotton, and wrap with the cotton wraps. I see so
many horses done up in pretty fleece polo wraps over night, and that was
always a no-no.
