Speaking of packing heat. What is the law in California concerning carrying a 
loaded gun on trails. I find that it's ok in a campsite, on private property or 
where guns are ok to fire but nothing about hiking or riding horseback on a 
trail.

That's a problem. With a shoulder holster you could end up with broken 
ribs. With a belt holster a banged up hip. With a back holster I'd hate 
to thing of what you could end up with.

That's why I carry mine in my teeth. That way it always close at hand. 
If my horse won't stop, it serves as brakes. And the biggest reason if 
my horse decides to play yard darts I just spit it the other way and 
won't land on it ;-) .
