Re: [RC] Proving Stallions (or mares for that matter) - Quentin & Libby Llop

It's interesting that Kat used Spectacular Bid as an example. He ended
his career near here and a large # of his off spring have become sport
horses locally. Probably because they didn't excel at the track. I know
of one that has done a 50.
When I was looking for an Arab mare to breed a Hispano -arabe, I found
and bought my endurance horse's mother. I know that she has produced a
100 mile horse - that I like to ride. Libby

Then, agreeing with your post, let me rephrase my point. *I* would look for
a stallion that had some significant performance pertaining to the discipline
I was shopping for in the near neighborhood---himself, his own close-up
ancestors, sibs, offspring, whatever. I understand proving through offspring
is ideal, but its not always available for the reasons you discuss. My point
being that pedigree doesn't suffice all by itself, without SOMEONE in the
close family having put the pedigree to the test via performance. I agree
with the statement that you can't ride a pedigree. I understand that
pedigree is important, but it's not an exclusive concept.

As always, JMO.
