I bought a pill-crusher at the pharmacy for a couple of bucks and it works 
great, very easy to use, requires litle strength and makes absolutely no 
mess.  It's a small round plastic container with a screw-on lid that is 
pointed on the inside.  You put the pill inside, screw the lid on, and it 
crushes the pill.

I have one specifically for bute that I never use for anything else, so I 
don't have to worry about cross-contamination.
