The melting the pills in water , adding the molassas and stirring it in a cut or two of wet beet pulp did the trick. He is greedy! I gave up keeping him up. It is healing well, with water hosing and we are all much happier. It is the older horses I have had , both X racers that were very suspisious of anything you carried that looked like meds. The arabs and the + I just put everthing in a bit of food. Only had to syringe the one with EPM meds and I used Applesauce training with him. Basically , seems they don't like being forced, but will take it in food or a sandwich freely.
I dissolve the pills in H2O also, but I do it all in the syringe to start with. Less mess. Just put the pills in the syringe, add warm H2O (now's the time to add flavor if you're giong to--I usually don't) & shake it up. Works for bute too.
Any time I had to give numerous pills 2 X daily, I dissolved them in a little bit of water, whereupon they became paste. Then I added a spoonful of molasses, whereupon the paste turned to liquid. I drew this into a dose syringe and shot it into the horse's throat. They like the molasses and don't seem to notice the medication.
This was for one particular kind of tablet, Tribrisson.
And have to figure out how to get him to take 10 pills @x a day.I will crush and put them in water and try to get him to eat it in a beetpulp mix. Otherwise I may have to syringe.hah----- maybe in yogurt or applesauce.....played that game with R. before
