[RC] Snaffle Bits and tongue relief - Ranelle Rubin

Ridecampers,

I am not by any means an expert in bits, (or anything else for that matter) however, I have researched a fair bit on why horses respond to different bits (and at times why they don't).

Some of you may want to consider the book about bits (or the DVD) put out by the Myler people. Many of the symptoms I am reading on this thread about horses "hating" this or that bit IMHO have to do with tongue pressure, which the Myler Bits specifically avoid.

There are two specific mouthpieces in L1 and L2-3 bits with which I have had great results with endurance horses, depending on their training level and temperament. I strive for a horse who is relaxed at the poll, controllable under any circumstance, and willing to have light contact, (not in front of or behind the bit).

FWIW, a Kimberwick is a type of cheek piece, not a type of mouthpiece. It is a specific type of leverage/method of attachment to a variety of different bits.

Happy to share what I have learned if anyone wants to contact me privately by email.

Happy Trails!
