[RC] Hi-Tie alteration - Jennifer Fleet

Hi all,

My friend that I will be doing rides with just ordered three Hi-Ties for her trailer. I told her that the bungee-type attachments they come with aren't the best way to go, and that a lot of people modify the Hi-Tie to use a non-elastic rope with a safety snap. I know from experience that my own horse did not like having to stretch the bungee to get his nose to the ground when he was on one. This leads me to believe it inhibits eating (when the hay is on the ground) and laying down.

Can someone give me some instructions to give her on what type of rope/straps/snaps, etc. to use and how to attach it so that it will be safe, be adjustable for length, and meet the safety requirements of a CTR judge? We will be doing both endurance and CTR so have to keep that part in mind. :)

Thanks,
Jennifer
