[RC] stocking up question - Jennifer Fleet

I went out to feed this morning to find my gelding's hind legs stocked up from the fetlocks down. I have not ridden him since Sunday- he doesn't stock up from riding anyway.

Vet was here yesterday for Rabies and West Nile vacs. Also gave him a Legend I.V. injection (preventative joint maintenance). He also did flexion tests on all four legs since I have not competed him in over a year and wanted to make sure we didn't have any arthritic problems sneaking up on us, since he is now 13 and is entering middle age. Vet proclaimed him very sound.

Oh - one other thing....I started him back on beet pulp shreds as of yesterday too, to get him used to it before we start feeding it at rides. He's been off of it since I moved to FL - about a year. I can't imagine that would cause stocking up...? I started him with 1/2 large coffee can, soaked. Added it to his normal amount of Purina Complete Advantage and supplements.

He was turned out on pasture all night - not stalled.

So what gives? Can a Rabies or West Nile Vac, or Legend given IV cause stocking up?

He seems a little stiff...but otherwise acting totally normal. I think I'll ride him lightly and see if goes away. It's just weird.

Jennifer
