[RC] Shagya - Donna Coss

The Shagya excels frequently as a purebred, i.e. HUNGARES winning the WEG endurance, but
when you compare the percentage of Shagya in the world to Arabian, the breed has done
very well. And also remember GEORGAT and her brilliance.

The breed in Europe is considered an Arabian breed and very often is not given credit, but
just labeled, "Arabian"! It often does and is not recognized for what it adds to the breed
mix. The French seem to blend and refine, always striving for the perfect sport horse.

I am very certain that some of the Anglo blood is from the Shagya.

The SHAGYA has an advantage, since for over 200 years it has been bred to be an excellent
horse under saddle--the perfect riding type! Whereas the purebred Arabian has been bred
to prance around a show ring looking pretty. Yes, some Arab lines were and are being
bred for performance, but the Shagya has a 200 year advantage! Or head start!
