I guess it just highlights the difference between 'industry' and 'recreation'. We (endurance in the US) seem to mostly get our horses from other industry cast offs (show-halter, racing, etc). We do have a few breeders who focus on Endurance, but very small numbers when compared to other sports/industries.

Even USA breeders of endurance horses still have to deal with the cast offs (not every horse bred for endurance will be a good endurance horse). That is the nature of breeding - especially breeding for racing performance.
