RE: [RC] [RC] thinking of switching from lyte now electrolyte paste - suggestions? - Ranelle Rubin

Yeah Susan..!

Dyna-Spark (The Dynamite Electrolyte) gets into my horse in the most amazing ways:

He will lick it out of my hand
He will eat carrots doused in it (crinkle cut ones work great)
He will bite the end of a syringe off if there is any in it
He will drink it out of a water bottle under saddle (mixed with applesauce, water, and DynaPro probiotic) He knows which side pocket it is in and will turn his head as soon as I unzpip that pocket.
He will gobble any mash with it in it
He will slurp water soaked hay with it in it
He will drink all the water in his scoop if I put a squirt of it in it

I carry a small 4 oz travel bottle on my saddle. I squirt a few drops in something just about any chance I get.

I remember doing a ride last May. I came into a water stop at about mile 35. I was informed I was in 10th place. When I pulled out my small collapsible bucket, poured some concentrate (Pelleted Grain from Dynamite)/water/and a squirt of DynaSpark and spent a few min letting my horse get some food into him, I actually had a gal ask why I was spending extra time when I was running 10th. I would rather come in last than let my 1080 lb boy be hungry. We still came in 10th..and he looked great!

The PNW is more dilute than most (not sure specifically about EnduraLyte)
and I think most of the adverse effects of upset tummies come from using too
concentrated a solution at one time, so I like PNW myself. So if you're
going to syringe at all, try just giving a half dose or even less, and
dosing more frequently. I think that works better, then also add a sprinkle
to the mash, onto the hay, into the water, darn near every place you can
think of to sprinkle just a little, plus offer some by itself on the side
when you can. I know, I know, some people don't think you should syringe at
all. Fine. I do. I like it in small, frequent doses, but that's JMO.

I've seen the elytes mixed with yogurt, vanilla pudding, applesauce, plain
water, Gatorade, pureed carrots, cake frosting, pancake syrup, watered down
molasses and corn syrup. I think the best choice is whatever your horse
likes without giving you a dirty look afterwards.

JMO.

suggestions?

we've been using lyte now for 2 years but it seems most folks around
me are using powder electrolytes that they mix w/ apple sauce or
yogurt and syringe it that way.
so i did some research and i'm debating between endura-lyte and perform &
win.
feedback?
also, what else can i mix the powder electrolytes with to syringe them?

all this reading and i still find all of this to be such a mystery...
