[RC] using a breastcollar when you don't *need* it? - Tx Trigger

Add me to the list of those who always use a breastcollar, even tho' I live and ride in a fairly flat area. (No. TX) I also always use a crupper. Just old habits from the days of riding in CA where we had real mountains and hills (not hills like Truman has in Florida <wink>)  I too prefer the Y type, and can adapt them to fit and work with all of my saddles, english or endurance type. Well fitting tack will NOT rub. I currently use a Toklat fuzzy and nylon breastcollar, which have been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. (still own my first one from them) I slip the nylon part that goes between the front legs with a section of cut bike inner-tube , as nylon webbing gets icky, stiff and dirty fast, and the inner-tube works more like biothane against the horse. I have a biothane breastcollar on order. The crupper is biothane from Canadian Tack, and I really like her tail piece, as it is shaped to fit nice under the tail, easy to clean. I too have heard folks say they had breastcollars get caught on brush and limbs, but all my many (too many) years of riding, I personally have not. Like anything, one must decide what is right for THEM, and THEIR horses.  No one right answer for everyone.
