I always ride with one on. A lot of it for the reasons everybody listed but mainly because I'm lazy and its easier to just leave it hooked to the saddle all the time then go looking for it when I *need* it. I am the queen of misplacing things. I use a Zilco breastcollar and I've never had a rub. I've been using the same one for 4 years now and other than some tarnish on the brass when it's washed it still looks brand new.
