I use a regular "western" style neoprene breastcollar 
but am > debating about getting one of the biothane ones that seems to
fit 
along the > top of the shoulder.  I have read that these are better for
the 
horse.

If I recall correctly, there's a nerve on the shoulder that you really
don't want to have constant pressure and the Y shaped breastcollar avoids
it. If you'll notice though, work horses that really lean into their work
get a collar, but buggy horses pull with something closer to the western
breastcollar so looks like what you're doing wouldn't be as bad as a
buggy horse pulling a cart. I do like my Y shaped ones though. I think
they are better when the horse wants to put his head down to drink.  I
still reach down and unsnap one side though to make it even looser if we
stop for water.
