RE: [RC] [RC] Good First 100's by Region - Ranelle Rubin

I would love to see someone sponsor an award program for a West Region Triple Crown..Tevis/Swanton/VC..!!!! They are all a month apart, so it IS doable this year!!

Kyle's question about a good first 100 for the NE region brings up the much loved and discussed topic of the 100 mile rides. First off, a plug for the 100-Mile Yahoo group, http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/new100milers/. The list has been pretty slow lately but please join if you are thinking of doing a 100, are currently doing 100's or a supporter of 100's. I'm pretty excited because the West coast has several new 100 mile rides this year! A BIG THANK YOU to the managers and staff that are putting on the Git-R-Done, Main Divide, and Patriot's Day 100 mile rides this year. I hope to attend each of these! Hopefully these rides will continue to be held. I'm very sorry to hear we will probably be losing Swanton Pacific 100 after this year, but after 25 years I can understand if the McCrary's need a break. =) Also, this year is the 35th Anniversary of the Virigina City 100! So come ride Swanton (8/25) and VC (9/15) for their special anniversary editions.

I'm hoping those of you in other regions will join in here and we can compile a list of those 100's that are good for people looking to move up to the longer distance. I have a couple to start with, please add the dates and any info about the rides you may have. I'll post the summarized list on the 100-mile board for future reference:

Pacific South - (I haven't done either of these yet but heard they are good)
20-Mule Team (2/3/2007)
Git-R-Done (4/14/07)

Northwest -
Sunriver (6/23/07), great first 100, moderate trail with excellent footing, very scenic, TONS of water on trail (mostly all hauled in!), be prepared for riding in the DARK if the moon isn't up yet as you will be in the trees for the last loop and you'll need to have some light for checking markers, etc.

Okay, let's add on~!
