RE: [RC] suicide race - heidi

The Omak suicide race is for real--and it is pretty bad.

That said, I was pretty disgusted by the HSUS's suggestion that the PRCA can do anything about it--they even admitted in their article that the suicide race no longer has anything to do with the suicide race.  Connecting them to it is about as absurd as connecting, say, the AERC to it...

Unfortunately, Omak was one of those things that the sport of endurance had to "live down" in the NW region--people familiar with it thought that that was what WE do with our horses, and it took some educating in some places for folks to realize that it is a whole separate thing.

I'd have to see some more documentation.  This is from the Humane Society of the United States...a PeTA buddy.  I'm having a hard time understanding why the PRCA or PCRA (it was both ways in the article...red flag) is sanctioning an event like this.  Rodeo is a competition of REAL cowboys.  No cowboy would ride his horse like this unless he was running for his life.

Yes, I am seriously hoping this is all a bad mistake.  I'm going to look into it further.
