Re: [RC] Best Sound Magnifying Stethescope? - Barbara McCrary

We have had horses over the years that were very hard to pulse with the hand. My current horse is one of those. Some of the horses had such strong heartbeats that you could almost hear them, and it was very easy to pulse them by hand. It seems to depend on the individual horse, but yes, some of us still pulse by hand, if it is possible.

So I was just curious, does anybody still check HR with just your hand
anymore? (just speaking in terms of for yourself personally, not for
official purposes during a ride of course) Also to all the newbies out
there, do they still teach newbies how to check that way? It comes in handy
sometimes, i.e. batteries on HRM die, steth breaks, etc. I can also check
my mare while sitting on her back when we stop for a bite to eat or drink.
Anyway, just wondering how antiquated I am. ;-)
