[RC] XP 2001 Prize Saddle - k s swigart

John Teeter said:

(p.s. you might also remember that there was
a very nice, and significant, prize (a beautiful
custom Annie George saddle) presented to the
winner of the 2001XP.)

While it is true that there was a very nice, significant, custom hand
tooled Anne George saddle presented to the winner of the 2001 XP, the
"winner" of this prize was determined not by placing, but rather by
vote/the Duck.

It was given to the "best performance" and all the participants on the
last day were allowed to submit their suggestion for who they thought
ought to win it (aside: _I_ voted for John & Dolly Lakso for crewing for
the Ramsdells the whole way:) and helping a lot of other people
besides); however, the final choice for the prize was up to the Duck.
The outcome of the "vote" was never announced. The Duck just took
suggestions and gave it to whoever he thought deserved it.

It would be really difficult to call this prize one that was won for
racing.

The rider (horse??) that DID win it were the ones that went the furthest
albeit only 50 miles further than the one that went the second furthest,
and the fact that they went faster probably contributed.

Not quite the same as winning a race.
