That's an interesting question...and one that would be hard to get accurate (honest) answers to on RC, because I think many people would be afraid to admit to liking the race aspect.  Personally, all I care about is completing the ride and getting lifetime miles for me and my horses.  But there are many who don't necessarily care about coming in first or top ten, but *are* interested in other awards, such as regional weight division point standings.  Many of the various awards are  "race-based," although the "race" is yearlong rather than limited to one ride.
