RE: [RC] [Endurance Tracks] Great Santa Fe Horse Race: Injured horseriders airlifted t... - Jannelle Wilde & Adam Falk

Oh, I think I was misinterpreted. I was simply extrapolating from what the
article didn't and did say. I thought it was odd that the article didn't
mention that the horses were killed...I mean even a non-horse person would
probably be curious.

As for going to fast, all I meant was that they were going too fast to stop
before the road. And yes, that is a ride management issues. I had no
intention of pointing fingers. It is just a terrible tragedy from all
aspects.

Go have a glass of wine and relax Joe.

So it kinda sounds like they were going fast to the finish? Hard to

There is no such thing as "going too fast to the finish." Endurance
rides are also races, and it is common for two or more riders to sprint
flat-out to the finish line as fast as they can. I've done it many
times over the years.

It is essential at rides to have a safe finish area, including a long
enough runout after the finish line to allow sprinting horses room to
stop safely. I do not know the details of what happened here, so I am
not blaming ride management. I'm just pointing out that some riders
will, properly, race to a finish line as fast as they can and they
should not be blamed or criticized for doing that.

As to no word about the horses, the article was quoted from a local
newspaper. Sadly, both horses needed to be put down, and I hear that
the driver of the car is in critical condition. This is a terrible
tragedy, and no time to be pointing fingers or assigning blame. All of
those involved need to be in our prayers.
