There is no such thing as "going too fast to the finish." Endurance rides are also races, and it is common for two or more riders to sprint flat-out to the finish line as fast as they can. I've done it many times over the years.

It is essential at rides to have a safe finish area, including a long enough runout after the finish line to allow sprinting horses room to stop safely. I do not know the details of what happened here, so I am not blaming ride management. I'm just pointing out that some riders will, properly, race to a finish line as fast as they can and they should not be blamed or criticized for doing that.

As to no word about the horses, the article was quoted from a local newspaper. Sadly, both horses needed to be put down, and I hear that the driver of the car is in critical condition. This is a terrible tragedy, and no time to be pointing fingers or assigning blame. All of those involved need to be in our prayers.
