[RC] Santa Fe Ride - Team Estrogen-Day 2 - FXLivestock

Laura called me tonight to report on Day 2 of the Santa Fe ride.  Today 46 horses started the ride and 43 finished.  They road along a service road which was nice but not as scenic as yesterday’s trail.  The weather was really pleasant.  Marilyn McCoy and Roger Taylor are really helping out ride management.  Laney Humphrey is heading up the volunteers.  It sounds like there is a lot of experienced endurance riders helping out.  Again water was out on the trail about every 5 miles.  Laura told me that there were large water trucks and “gator like” vehicles that were providing water support.  Just like yesterday there were many different breeds of horses riding today.

Today Laura road towards the back of the pack with a NATC rider from TX  named Diane.  Diane was riding a Spanish Mustang and it was the horse’s first ride.  BTW, this is the third endurance ride for Laura’s mare, Mo.  Today on the trail, Mo decided that the flies were pretty bad and she needed a good scratch.  So with Laura on board, Mo decided to lay down in the tall grass and scratch her belly.  Of course this kind of freaked Laura out but Mo then just got back up and started eating as soon as she got rid of the pesty flies.  Laura crossed the finish line missing two front shoes because the nail heads had worn off.  She said she was going to skip riding tomorrow because she didn’t want to have to put shoes on tonight J

I received a second call from Laura after awards.  She wanted me to let everyone know how wonderful the town of Spencer, NM was to the riders.  The town of  Spencer provided dinner for the riders and support crew, provided awards and belt buckles to the Top Ten, had special coffee mugs made for vet staff.  The mayor even made some kind of proclamation.  Spencer was thrilled that the ride was going through their town.  The whole town was very supportive and really got behind the ride. She is having a great ride and the support from Spencer, NM  was really an unexpected treat.  So far it sounds like a great adventure!!
