Re: Re: [RC] Reality bites/ horse slaughter - rjkopp

If the slaughter market goes away there will again be unusable/unwanted
horses eating pasture and hay, and it will be harder than ever to find a
place to keep the ones you ride, the price of feed will go up, supply and
demand. You think it's hard to find hay or pasture now? Wait till the
1000s of unwanteds overwhelm the rescue folks. Where are they going, who
puts out the $$$$ for care?

Interesting, just this morning while I was out riding I had an exercise rider
from the local training track
stop me to talk - she has a 4 year old thorobred she needs " to find a home
for" free and says there
are alot of cheap horses ( $100) that she knows of that people are trying to
get rid of. I asked why and
she said " now that the killers aren't buying there is no where to get rid of
these horses". Sad. And
this is in the heart of ' horse country'.
