[RC] Should I buy this horse? - Bruce Weary DC

.......on the other hand, this horse may miss out on the focused care and attention you would give her if you don't buy her. All horses have weaknesses, and maybe she has recovered from hers. Her spine is prominent in the pictures, but it is uniform throughout the length of the spine, as opposed to regional. IMO, this means she likely lost some of what is called "segmental muscle mass" along the spine, which has not been recovered because she is not being ridden. Unless she has neurological damage, it should be recoverable. A saddle with a gullet that leaves the spinouses non-weight bearing would be a good start. A lot of walking, especially on gentle upward and downward grades will help build those tissues as well as the larger erector muscles that run along the spine, hopefully concealing the spinous processes better and making the spine better able to bear and carry weight.
Worm damage is anyone's guess, but your vet might be able to give you some advice on that. We have all seen how remarkable a horse's recuperative powers are, in nearly all aspects of it's health and anatomy. This is very unscientific, but sometimes there is a feeling you get when you are around a horse that tells you if you should give each other a chance. Although not all the horses I've owned have worked out, I have never regretted giving them, and myself, a chance. Dr Q
