[RC] Clicky hocks - Andrea Day

I was sure by the threads we've had lately and this post title subject, that this was going to be a thread about some training device I'd never heard of ;)

I would imagine supplements would certainly be a good thing.

The 'clicky' horses I've been familiar with have been horses that did quite well as youngsters, and a couple through their middle ages, but eventually were stiff in the hocks. I'm assuming because of arthritis, but they were never X-rayed.

My best guess would be that you could get more mileage by limiting this horse to 50s and avoiding extreme stresses on the hocks (long slow conditioning, limiting pounding on hard surfaces, not conditioning steep hills, not racing, keeping him in balance, etc)

I think if he were mine, I'd get him into an equine clinic for an evaluation before I put a lot of time into him. I'd also get X-rays, if only for a baseline comparison in two or three years.

I wish you luck with him, and hopefully you will find that it's not going to every be an issue.

If so, add bells, and you can be a one-horse band!
