[RC] slaughter - Brenda Kossowan

Heidi said: I wish that every senator and congressman who voted to outlaw slaughter would personally have to house his or her share of the 90,000 unwanted horses who (give or take a few) who go to slaughter each year. That's somewhere around 300 horses per person. Maybe we could just pasture 'em all on the lawn of the Capitol, y'think?

Now that sounds like an interesting plan.

PS: Here in Alberta, we have the option of hauling our own horses to "The Plant" if desired, and they are put down that day, avoiding the stresses of being put through the auction ring and/or hauled to the kill buyer's feedlot and then shipped from there in a tightly-grouped trailer with other equally frightened horses. This is the part that most bothers me, is the effects of that final, arduous journey on horses that, in many cases, are already compromised.
