Again with the smoke screen of a false analogy. The morality/immorality and advisability/inadvisability of cannibalism by humans, or any other species has nothing whatsoever to do with singling out one or a few species of animals as being non edible especially by folk who cheerfully eat other animals. Granted, it is a common religious belief (read Leviticus and its detailed lists of "clean and unclean").
But the problem arises is that we by separating cannibalism from the eating of any species are imparting a our theocratic bias - many Hindus view eating beet the way we would view eating humans. You brought up the starving kids and horses, you think the kids in the Donner party weren't starving and there were no horses left.

Bottom line is we are a democratic society. At some point the majority does rule. The Bill of Rights is extremely important but the Bill of Rights does not give us the right to slaughter horses nor does it forbid such slaughter. As far as I can see the Bill of Rights is completely silent on the topic. Nor is anyone's stand pro or con on horse slaughter involved in any establishment of any religion. The slaughter of horses is one of those issues that the Government has to deal with based on the views of the majority of the population. Sorry, a prohibition of horse slaughter does not rise to a prohibition of the exercise of religious freedom or free speech or a free press. There is no Theocratic institution involved that is pushing a band on horse slaughter.

If one is against horse slaughter - they should work through the democratic system to prevent it. If one supports it they should also work through the democratic system to keep it available. Neither side of this issue is on the "right side has God or the Constitution on their side."

If you really want to talk about "slippery slopes" lets talk about this type of law may be the first step in turning the USA into a Theocracy. Our founding fathers rightly outlawed the establishment of a religion etc.

The other part of your postings about the will of the majority in a democracy, was also feared by our founding fathers. Much of The Bill of Rights is aimed at limiting the Tyranny of the Majority.
