FW: [RC] Horse sense and common sense - hard to find... - Mike Sherrell

A list of widespread bad advice would be amusing. The only thing I can
remember off the top of my head is all the people that were recommending
rich feed. I even heard secondhand about one stable owner that only fed
alfalfa pellets because it kept the poop to a minimum.

funny - all these programs in reality embrace a TON of
common sense and horse sense - something we and many
other less cowboy types (no insult there to cowboys -
they are a rare breed) have used, embraced and been
successful with LONG before it was fashionable, long
before it was in books or videos (dating myself here)
and before some peeps made a ton of money espousing
it.

But therein lies the rub. Common sense is not common,
and the vast majority of people around horses do NOT
have horse sense! Something you'll hear Parelli say
is "You want to be good with horses? Look at what
other so-called horse people are doing, and do the
opposite". As a new horse owner just over a decade
ago, much of the supposed good advice I got were
things that I would NOT do to my horses now that I
know better (and I know better mostly from learning
the techniques and philosophies of great horsemen and
women who have put all their horse sense in a
teachable format).
