Re: [RC] Drugs v. bullet - Rebecca Fabiszak

Sorry to inform you but there is a percentage that do not go down well, same drugs. This gelding was sedated but it did not work on him as it does on most. She spent $250 on this boy. The vet was very apologetic but did say that it happens no matter what, it does happen. As he said, he would prefer it not to have happened with the horse who's owner wanted to stay with him. The gelding was not in any pain that we could tell, just galloping while on his side.  A bullet is quick, cheap and as pain free as anything that ends ones life in seconds.

I disagree that drugs are not as humane as a bullet. I recently put my best
friend down and it was very peaceful and fast. It depends on the VET and HOW
the vet does it. They can sedate first and inject drugs so that they go to
the heart very fast, there is no moving around by the horse anymore or
struggling to live.  I only spent $120 and that included the disposal
(Colorado). So, it can be done fairly cheap without the drama.
