RE: [RC] Shadows' tieup, now Ray's anemia & red maples - sherman

Yes, I frequently look at the toxic plants list, to be aware of them.
The reason red maples popped up is that it does cause anemia, often
death, and Ray has severe anemia which is not improving. He has red
maple trees outside his pasture and was seen taking a bite. Although not
wilted, I wondered if red maple could cause some problems even if not
wilted.

Kathy

Red maple leaves, if fallen on the ground are very toxic,(wilting).
But
many other plants can cause some \toxicity if ingested too much. Wild
cherry
and plum too. We had a friend, who had siniliar symptoms and his horse
was
eating wild plum in the pasture. Too many acorns or other nuts can
cause
some problems. Certain weeds.... Azelas, olanders, yews,
Rhododendrom....
Black Walnut is really nasty. Usually the horses won't eat poisionous

stuff-- but some horses don't catch on....

And some things are only a problem is they eat too much of it......
