[RC] lawn tractors and arena maintenance - Mary Krauss

Anyone out there had to drag/maintain an arena with a lawn tractor? If so, how did it go? Was it strong enough to drag a harrow? We are the excited owners of a new HUGE arena (outdoor) and are just getting our minds around how much work it is to keep the thing up. My neighbor has a standing offer to let us rent his tractor -- a win/win since he's a genius at keeping the thing running and we would save mega $$'s by renting from him by the hour. But, if our little John Deere can handle it, I'd just as soon not have to use his all the time.

While we're at it, is 4" of sand way to deep to condition my 5 yr. old soon-to-be endurance buddy? The builder accidentally added sand that was to go in the round pen to the big arena so we wound up too deep. I wanted 3". It seems awfully deep. Will it settle any (aside from the top couple of inches we'd be harrowing regularly)?

Thanks for any and all advice about using/maintaining our fabulous new space.

Mary K. (who completely agrees with Joanne that the new arena needs stunning jump standards as furniture -- even if I hate jumping)
