[RC] Sponging question - Kristi Schaaf

Got a question - does it really do the horse any good
if you sponge warm or lukewarm water on him? Most of
the water sources on trails in my area (midwest) are
really warm this time of year, and I can't imagine how
the water from them would actually help cool my
horse....if anything, it seems like the warm water
could insulate and make him hotter...??? Unless of
course you also brought a scraper and scraped him off
after you sponged...but with the high humidity it
seems like all you'd be doing is adding wet warmth to
wet warmth. I'm just curious because there are lots of
sponge fanatics in AERC and I'm wondering if it's
really worth the wet saddle pad, tights, etc if the
water used isn't very cool.

Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off)
