RE: [RC] [RC] Cougar Rock video - Ranelle Rubin

Kristi..Cougar Rock is now an option some take for the photo, the challenge, etc..there is a perfectly good trail around it which I chose to take. If I need a photo of myself and my horse going over it, I will go there on a non-ride day and do so. That is just a choice I make for myself and my horse with so many more miles to go.

It is likely the steepest section, but there are plenty of other equally challenging places on this ride. Cougar Rock has received notoriety mostly due to the fact that for many years there was not option.

I think if I wanted to do it on ride day, I would go do it ahead of time so my horse knew "his path".

If anyone ever wants to come ride the Tevis trail, just let me know..Some folks think I charge..I don't...I just know the value of knowing what to expect.

I just watched the 9 minute You Tube video, and for
those of you who have been over it (or around it, I
should say, as that's what everyone except one person
did in the video), please share feedback on the best
way to get safely over it. In the video, I saw a few
people actually canter their horses over most of it
(seemed awfully high risk to me?) and other people
allow their horses to take one tentative step at a
time. A few horse/rider pairs looked really in synch
doing it and made it look fairly effortless, but the
vast majority were not, er, pretty. And I was really
surprised at how many people seemed to use the reins
to 'hold' themselves on. I held my breath during much
of the video, afraid that I might see someone
literally flip over backwards. Please tell me that
that IS the steepest section on the whole Tevis trail!
