RE: [RC] Running, OT - Jody Rogers-Buttram

OK.  I'm not running expert here, but I do know one.  :))  I run with Joni (13 yrs. old and skinny)  It ain't easy folks.  We did a 5k race this weekend...of course I didn't place, but hey To finish is to Win right?  The dry throat comes from breathing incorrectly.  You should breathe in the nose, and out the mouth.  I know....it is very hard to do when you are gasping for air  !!!!!   I don't know about the calf cramps....try eating bananas.

Jody---going home to run her 2 miles in the new racing shoes that take a minute off your time.

Well, since I brought up the subject, I?ll start.  As a newbie without a horse, I take weekend dressage lessons.  I have a full time career and a husband and two boys, so you can imagine that I don?t get much time to myself.  I include my family in my exercise after work ? they?re my encouragement too.  Basically, I have to keep up with a 7 and 5 year old on their bikes through my neighborhood, going about 2.5 miles every other night.
Here are a couple of my questions.  I wear heels at work ? nothing really high, 2-3?, but I was wondering if they are what?s causing my calves to cramp.  My next question:  I run in intervals (can?t do a steady run yet), taking breaks by actively walking.  By the end of my 2 miles, no matter how much walking rest I?ve had, my throat is so dry it hurts to breathe.  Does anyone know what I can do about this?  I?m only away from the house for about 30 minutes and don?t really want to drag a water bottle with me, but I will if that is the only solution.  Thanks.
