[RC] WHAT'S NEXT? - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Dear RC,

I think I will post a very politically incorrect statement about the 30 rule.

As my mother says, "The day that LD (Novice rides) were created, was the beginning of the downfall of endurance".

Now, it seems to me that the 30 minute rule is just one step away from turning a truly, engaging sport of tough people and horses into LD riders, no matter the distance.   Once they have us under the 30 minute rule, next thing will be the finish order according to recovery times at the finish.  All for the Welfare of the horse.  At that time, endurance will have officially died.  There is nothing wrong with the WHC making changes to benefit the health of the horses.  I am all for that.  But, Why not require more than one VC during a ride?  Seems to me that if the vets had the chance to examine horses MORE often than once that they might catch some that could be getting into trouble.   Why not require a CRI at VC's and the Finish?  We've proven here in the SE that it a great tool, and takes no longer than a VC.  Oh, I forgot, some of us here don't have VC's.  So, nevermind.  At any rate, I can/have competed under whatever the rule is.  But, then again, I don't have a HISTORY of horse abuse and overriding.  But, we don't want to do anything about those repeat offender who kill multiple horses.  Oh, I forgot again, to some horses are disposable.  It seems to me that Politics are more important than anything.  And as, we, the older bunch of ENDURANCE riders are being outnumbered by the masses of lesser distances, the politics will continue to be in their favor of EQUALITY.  Hey, I'm all for that, as Angie has said before, let's lump it all into one big happy family, miles and POINTS.

Ok, now that I have totally pissed you all off, I'll shut up....oh wait....I don't have to be loved by the masses, I'm not in the sport for the politics....I am in because I love ENDURANCE.
