Re: [RC] tricks to entice eating - Lindak

Tori,
My horses used to be fed straight alfalfa for years. Then I learned that
wasn't so good due to the formation of enteroliths, so I bought Bermuda
grass hay which they ALL refused to eat. I learned thru trial and error to
feed the alfalfa 1/2 flake a.m. & p.m. per horse, plus a full flake of
Bermuda, per horse, in the a.m. I also learned to put the Bermuda in a
different tub than the alfalfa or they would eat all the Alfalfa, then toss
the Bermuda out onto the ground, walk on it and pee on it. Then of course
they would not eat it. Now when my horses finish the 1/2 flake of alfalfa
they are still hungry, so they go over to the other tub and munch on the
Bermuda throughout the day & night. Actually every since my latest filly was born (last March), and my vet recommended Orchard grass hay instead of Bermuda, I now feed alfalfa and Orchard in the a.m. and alfalfa and Bermuda in the p.m. And while Bermuda is still the LEAST liked, and last eaten, its mostly all gone each morn.
This is my 4 rat study with 2 Arabs and 2 Tenn. Walkers. Hope it helps.
From Linda-k
Have a horse lovin' day!!!
