Re: [RC] [RC] Bug story - Dawn Carrie

Ok...we need to start a book of "You're Not Gonna Believe What Happened..." stories...I vote for this one to be included!  Great story-telling technique here!

Sorry to hear about your ear infection...  :(

Well, a strange thing happened to me while out trail riding on Ruby the
other day. The deer fly were quite bad and while I was vigilantly whisking
them off Ruby's head to the best of my abilities, a deer fly did a kamikaze
dive straight into my right ear! OUCH! All the way in and buzzing for all
it was worth. I, of course, freaked right out and started smacking myself
on the right ear trying to kill it since I knew it was too far in to dig
out … while on the trail anyway. Meanwhile, my friend that is riding with
me has no idea what happened and is likely thinking I am having some kind
of seizure from some medical condition I failed to warn her about!

Finally, a few weak feeble buzzings and then all is silent. Of course, it
is making me crazy that I now have a bug stuck in my right ear that I can't
do anything about! YECK!!!!! I ignore it as best I can for the rest of the
ride. When I got back to the trailer, I used a swab to see if I could
dislodge it. But, only got a bit of fly blood. I was afraid of trying too
hard for fear of driving it right into my brain! (Ok, I know that is
exaggerating but…. ) When I got home, I used some ear drop and tried to
suction it out with a bulb. No good.

The next day it was no better so on the way home from work, despite my
embarrassment, I stopped in the ER to see if they could remove it because
now I was getting some sharp pains in that ear. After some poorly
suppressed giggling from the ER staff. Mostly because they had just removed
a LIVE moth from a persons ear 1/2 hr. before I came in and thought it was
bizarre to get 2 bug in the ear cases in one morning.

The doctor asked me how it happened. I told her the bug flew in while I was
riding my mule. "Really," she said, "you were riding a MULE and the bug
flew in YOUR ear!?!". (More not so well suppressed giggling!)

They irrigated my ear and all that was left of the fly were a few body
parts. But, I now have an ear infection I have to take antibiotics for!
Stupid Fly!!!!!
