Iceland uses freeze branding and they also turn the horses loose on
the island every spring to roam free. The horses are then..."rounded
up" in the late summer. The freeze brands are used by the farmers to
ID their stock. Recently many Ice Horses have also been chipped.  And
of course, before freeze branding was used...the farmers notched the
ears with the "farm notch" as a way to ID their stock.
