only the last loop was 23+km/hr. the ride times were 8:48 (and it was  
164km). The last loop was a repeat of the 3rd loop (as I recall) -  
the first time, they did it at @18km/hr. It looks like the top 8  
finishers had quite a bit of horse left at the end; at least enough  
to up the pace 30% or so.

Also of note,  the french swept - the first 16 finishing were from  
France. Nice to see they have the confidence to run with all comers  
(a poke at the AERC ant-hill,  which refuses to allow an open  
division at their NC b/c they don't want any furiners besting the  
locals:)
