RE: [RC] [RC] Skinny mare - Ranelle Rubin

Rae,

If you have the ability to seperate her, leave all the hay in front of her she wants..that is the first thing I would do..most horses will not overeat on hay. My experience with Dynamite products has been that horses are always in good flesh with less concentrates added to their diet. The vitamins themselves help them better utilize the rest of their food.

There are several other Dynamite products that will help her, but I would start with all the hay she wants, vitamins, and if you can, the Pelleted Grain Ration..

Feel free to email me privately and I will be happy to call you and talk more about this.

Good luck,

I'm looking for some advice for one of my mares. She is 22 and has a 10+ week old HUGE colt. The mare is starting to look like she needs rescueing, she's sooo skinny. This colt seems to be sucking the life out of her. She gets 6lbs of a 16% mare and foal feed from Dumont (Tractor Supply Company brand) twice a day plus about 4-6 lbs of an alfalfa/brome mix hay twice a day. My other mare is getting fat on this, as is her 7 week old foal, but Amy seems to be wasting away. We've got 6 more weeks before we can wean - is there anything more I can do for Amy? A lunch feeding would be difficult as I work in downtown Houston and live way out in the suburbs, but I could do it on weekends.
