Cox 2 inhibitors superiority over the older generations of NSAID's is purely it's relative sparing effect on the gastric mucosae ,human or equine .I would stress the word relative here ,because there is still significant bleeding bleeding problem with COX2 ,over time .
Kat ,pain as a sensory modality is a 'safety' thermostat for all of us .Take away the 'thermostat' ,a horse with a 'marginally dysfunctional joint ,tendon or ligament will go berserk and may end up winning the race but permanently disabled .
I would agree with Leonard that in the FEI setting ,the new COX2 will not get even considered for exemption .The FEI may be 'loony' on some issues but probably not this one .
