Have to agree with Bruce and Nik regarding the sheer stupidity of giving such a drug to a horse and then having the horse perform.
I don't know that we "support" USEF per se--although we do liaise with them. I think the main reason for keeping up a relationship with USEF is so that we can continue to be a voice for the horse, reminding USEF that this kind of approach is wrong, wrong, wrong.
And that has worked - how? First ulcer medication - now good old NSIDS. What next Lasix, Bute, Dex,.... Where does it stop? We've heard the argument that we can have an impact by being associated with them. It is becoming very clear that we have no impact. Allow horses to perform in any sport from eventing to even dressage under the influence of a pain killer is just plain wrong. You have to be very careful with the company you keep or you will be painted with the same paint brush.

For my money time to cut the cord with all things USEF. It is clear we don't share the same values.

So could someone remind me why the AERC is still supporting the USEF? It's seems very hypothetical to be trying to formulate a drug rule that both protected the playing field of the competition and protects the horse from practices - like drugging it and racing it - of over zealous individuals and at the same time support an organization that legalizes drugs that allow riders to do just that.

Truman
