[RC] going back in time - Dot Wiggins

Two things come to mind

Barbara's thoughts about Westerners are so true, there is a different mind set.
The New World was settled by the adventurers, the bored, the dissatisfied, the renegades, etc.
As the coast areas grew settled the same sorts kept moving to new places.
Those contented, settled business folks, the timid and lazy, etc stayed put. Somebody had to mind the store, build for the long haul, back up those who went exploring.
As the country has matured, and there is nowhere to go exploring, the differences between east and west are shrinking but there is still a different mind set amoung folks. Sort of do it yourself, saddle your own horse, take care of your self, sort of thing.

The other thought.
Two years ago my kids decided we need to visit England and Ireland. We weren't able to stay as long as we would have liked, but did get to see some of the "old places". Things built in the 1400s ect. Traveling over there sure made sense out of something I had heard before.

"The English think 100 miles is a long ways.
The Americans think 100 years is a long time"

Both are wrong <g>
