RE: [RC] [RC] Question about Arab racing - Ranelle Rubin

Angie,

I have a friend who bred Arab race horses, nice horses to be sure. I coveted one of her young stallions, but when she refused to geld him, I refused to buy him with a "keep him complete" clause! She wanted the option to bring mares to him...no thanks.

She ended up going under, selling the horses cheap, and I came across this horse for sale by an endurance rider who thought he was to heavy for the horse. By then, I was not in the market for another horse, and he had been ridden with an ill-fitting saddle and his back had atrophied.

One of the things she said would help Arab racing was if they would race them longer distances. She felt that the longer distances would be a better venue for them (go figure), and that the public would be more engaged.

In CA, most of the fair meets have Arab racing, Los Alamitos, Golden Gate, and Bay Meadows have Arabs. I went to Los Alamitos a few years ago to watch, and all I wanted to do was bring 'em all home and give 'em a life of endurance..such athletic horses.

I have a question about the health of the Arab Racing industry....how is
it? I notice their classic filly race doesn't have many starters. I went
to look at a dispersal sale in Florida about 3 years ago because the
sheik's stable was selling out its Arab racers since "you couldn't get
any races on the card in Florida". There was an article on the internet
just day before yesterday about how bad New Jersey's racing industry is
hurting. I'm trying to reason with a fellow who needs to geld some "race
bred" stallions and he seems to be in a state of denial about their
prospects as stallions and the poor horses are suffering for it. I need
facts...preferably articles or websites about no market for foals or
places to race because he won't take my word for it I'm sure. These
horses are hungry and winter's coming...

What tracks have Arab racing nowadays?

Angie
